Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that the Supreme Court of the State of New Mexico affirmed the 2016 decision of a Los Lunas jury, sentencing Andrew Romero to life behind bars, without the possibility for parole, for his murder of Rio Rancho Police Officer Gregg “Nigel” Benner.

NEW MEXICO OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL: AG Balderas Announces Settlement of more than $7 Million with Wells Fargo in New Mexico

New Mexico Office of the Attorney General issued the following announcement on Dec. 28.Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that Wells Fargo will pay more than $7 million in settlement to the State of New Mexico. This payment is to resolve claims that the bank violated state consumer protection laws by (1) opening thousands of unauthorized accounts in New Mexico and enrolling customers into online banking services without their knowledge or consent, (2) improperly referring customers for enrollment in thirdparty renters and life insurance policies, (3) improperly charging auto loan customers for forceplaced and unnecessary collateral protection insurance, (4) failing to ensure that customers received refunds of unearned premiums on certain optional auto finance products, and (5) incorrectly charging customers for mortgage rate lock extension fees.

NEW MEXICO ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT: Gasoline Pipeline Release Near Anthony, N.M. Has Been Contained

A pipeline gasoline spill reported by Kinder Morgan’s Santa Fe Pacific Pipeline one week ago is now contained, and the New Mexico Environment Department’s (NMED) Ground Water Quality Bureau is handling remediation oversight in accordance with 20.6.2.1203 NMAC.
