Bernalillo County issued the following announcement on Oct. 11.

Experience the 1800s along El Camino Real through living history reenactments and interactions, a display cannon, horno baking and even adobe-making.

Plan to attend the El Camino Real Trade Fair happening tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. — 4 p.m. at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House, 6029 Isleta Blvd. SW, about three miles south of Rio Bravo Boulevard.

This community event is free.

Historical demonstrations include mule/burro packing, retablo painting, colcha, weaving, ristra-making, and Dutch oven cooking. An educational property-wide scavenger game for parajes, the traditional resting stops along the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro that were used by early travelers for centuries, helps to enlighten the importance of the trail.

Rounding out this yesteryear event are the modern amenities of food trucks and live entertainment. Cipriano and ‘La Familia Vigil’ Vigil and storyteller, Mary Ellen Gonzales, both courtesy of the NM Humanities Council and the NM Department of Cultural Affairs, will give vocal expression to the years of past.

This event is presented by Bernalillo County Open Space in partnership with the Hubbell House Alliance, New Mexico Historic Sites, and Friends of El Camino Real.
